Management Team


Matt Badylak was appointed to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer on 14 June 2021. Prior to this, Matt was EVP and Chief Operating Officer at Galiano where he took the lead in building the Company’s senior executive technical team. Matt is a mining professional with 20 years of extensive experience in senior management and operational planning covering Australia, Mongolia, China, Canada, Turkey and Ghana.

Prior to joining Galiano in 2020, Matt held the position of General Manager Kisladag with Eldorado Gold, a mid-tier gold producer with operations in Turkey, Canada, China and Greece. During his time with Eldorado he also held senior management roles including; Managing Director -China Operations, General Manager Tanjianshan and Director of Operational Support. Throughout his career, Matt has built strong, result orientated teams and executed on multiple cost saving and operational efficiency programs which have yielded significant shareholder returns. Earlier in his career he held several technical roles across Australia and Asia.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Extractive Metallurgy and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Murdoch University in Perth and is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Fausto Di Trapani, EVP & Chief Financial Officer

Fausto, a Chartered Accountant, joined Galiano in 2012 as Executive for Finance and is responsible for overseeing Galiano’s financial strategy, planning and analysis, accounting and financial reporting, as well as its tax and treasury functions. He has played a major role in the transformation of our Finance function from late-stage exploration through project development and production to the multi-jurisdictional fully integrated function it is today.
During his 20+ year career, Fausto has held a number of senior financial management roles at significant listed resource companies including Mantra Resources, Norilsk Nickel International and BHP Billiton. He holds an Honours Bachelor of Accounting Sciences degree from the University of South Africa.

Todd Romaine, EVP Sustainability

Todd joined Galiano Gold in 2020, assuming the role of EVP for Sustainability, and is responsible for advancing Galiano’s Sustainability and ESG programmes. He brings over 20 years’ experience in the environmental, social and community aspects of the resource extractive sectors as well as public and aboriginal governments. Prior to joining Galiano Gold, he worked as the CSO for Danakali Limited, an Australian junior potash mining company in Eritrea, and as VP for CSR and Government Relations at Nevsun Resources, a Canadian mid-tier mining company. In both companies he played a central role developing leading edge CSR initiatives to establish social license and responsible operations in challenging jurisdictions. His previous roles include senior management positions at Enbridge Pipelines, Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and the Government of Nunavut. Todd holds designations with the Canadian Institute of Planners, International Right of Way Association and has Master’ degrees in International Relations, Leadership, and Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Planning and Environmental Studies.

Markus Felderer, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development

Markus joined Galiano Gold in 2019 and is responsible for integration, corporate development and growth. During his 20+ year career, he has held corporate development roles at Alio Gold and Teck Resources, as well as, senior positions in Investment Banking at Canaccord Genuity and HSBC, focusing on M&A and financings in the mining sector.
Markus holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has an MBA and a Bachelor of Applied Science, Mining and Mineral Process Engineering.

Matt Freeman, Senior Vice President Finance

Matt Freeman has been with Galiano since 2020 as the SVP Finance and is responsible for Galiano’s regulatory compliance, financial reporting, and planning and analysis functions.
With his extensive financial experience coupled with deep knowledge of the mining sector, Matt has a successful track record in senior roles; as CFO of Energold Drilling he navigated through a successful corporate restructuring, and prior to that, held senior financial positions at SSR Mining, where he played a key financial role in its growth to becoming a mid-tier gold producer, leading initiatives on financial reporting, risk management, treasury management, as well as M&A activities.
Matt began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, is a UK qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA) and holds an BA honours degree from the University of Oxford.


Mr. Collins is a professional geologist with over 25 years of experience in the mining/exploration industry. Prior to joining Galiano, Greg held senior roles at North Limited, Anglogold Ashanti and Eldorado Gold.

Having worked in Indonesia/China/Mongolia/Russia region since 2004, Greg brings extensive experience in the Asia exploration scene, adding to his background in Australia, where he was exploring for a wide range of base and precious metal deposits. He has a proven ability to identify and add high quality projects to a company’s portfolio, such as directing Anglogold Ashanti’s entry into the world class Tropicana project in Western Australia, leading to the discovery of the +8Moz Havana/Tropicana deposit.

More recently he managed exploration at the world class 1.66Bt Malmyzh Copper-Gold deposit in the Russian Far East, through advanced exploration, due diligence and final sale.

Peter Lekich, Vice President Investor Relations

Mr. Lekich has more than ten years of experience in a variety of finance roles. He overseas all investor relations activities and marketing of Galiano Gold.
Most recently he was Manager of Investor Relations for Eldorado Gold, where he led the IR function for the company and developed strategies to engage the investment community. Prior to this Peter worked in a variety of project finance, asset management and investor relations roles at Alterra Power, a developer and operator of renewable power projects.
Peter has a B.A.SC in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Sauder School of Business.
